an assessment of genetic diversity among iranian populations of basil (ocimum spp.) using morphological traits

چکیده
the genus ocimum belonging to lamiaceae is considered as one of the most economical medicinal plants throughout the world. it is used in medicinal tea, and essential oil production, in spices, as vegetable, and also as a pot herb. the aim followed in this study was to evaluate the genetic diversity of 38 native populations collected from different geographical origins of iran along with two foreign breed cultivars (opal and keshkeni luvelou) as control. a number of 32 field conditions qualitative and quantitative morphological traits were taken into account. taxonomic studies revealed that the samples belonged to 3 species of: o. ciliatum (23 populations), o. minimum (1population), o. basilicum (15 populations). according to analysis of variance highly significant differences were observed among the populations. duncan’s multiple range tests indicated that the accessions were significantly different in all the evaluated parameters. the highest plant height (49/5 cm) and inflorescence whorl number (11/3) were obtained from population 24, while the highest inflorescence heights obtained from accessions 6 and 13 (15/1 cm). the accessions 4 and 5 benefited from the highest leaf dimentions of length and width.

Evaluation of Genetic Diversity in Iranian Violet (Viola spp) Populations Using Morphological and RAPD Molecular Markers
Recognition of genetic reserves and desirable genes is the basis of breeding programs. So far, in Iran, due to the lack of recognition of genetic resources, a considerable breeding program has not been done on native plants. The study of the genetic diversity of violets as a native plant with ornamental and medicinal uses is the great importance in advancing the breeding goals of this plant. So...

There is substantial diversity in Achillea biebersteinii plants in Iran. It has considerable different biological activities including antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant, insecticidal, herbicidal and wound healing. Research improvement for medicinal plants depends on the available genetic diversity. The assessment of genetic variability could increase the information for breeding programs. ...
متن کاملAssessment of the Genetic Diversity of Almond (Prunus dulcis) Using Microsatellite Markers and Morphological Traits
The genetic diversity among 56 almond (Prunus dulcis) genotypes was analysed using 35 microsatellite markers and 14 morphological traits. Analysis of morphological traits revealed a wide range of variation among the studied genotypes. Out of 35 simple sequence repeats (SSRs) markers, 25 were polymorphic, producing 215 alleles that varied from 2 to 16 with an average of 8.76 alleles per locus. R...
متن کاملAssessment of Genetic Diversity in Some Iranian Populations of Bunium persicum Using RAPD and AFLP Markers
The genetic diversity of 20 Iranian populations of Bunium persicum has been evaluated with random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) markers. Fresh leaves of seedlings from each population were used for genomic DNA extraction. Analysis of banding patterns of 15 RAPD primers and 17 AFLP primer combinations, revealed 192 (86%) and 228 (75%) polymorp...
